1910 Election Special Police Constables Pass Out in Kazo Ahead of Election Period

Kazo, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force has today passed out 1,910 Election Special Police Constables (ESPCs) at Kazo Secondary School, marking a key step in preparations for the upcoming election period.

The constables were trained to support security operations during elections and were recruited on a three-month contractual basis from three districts: Kazo, Kiruhura and Ibanda. Of the total number, 564 trainees are from Kazo, 526 from Kiruhura and 820 from Ibanda.

Speaking at the pass-out ceremony, the District Police Commander (DPC) for Kazo, SSP Joseph Nsabimana, confirmed that the training covered all three districts and commended the discipline exhibited by the trainees throughout the program. He thanked the Inspector general of police and the entire police leadership for providing the necessary support to ensure successful training.

The Returning Officer for Kazo district, Mr. Basheija Charles, who witnessed the ceremony, praised the skills demonstrated by the trainees and urged them to observe the law, maintain discipline and strictly follow instructions while executing their duties.

As the host district chairman, LC5 Chairperson Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda thanked the Uganda Police Force and the government of Uganda for selecting Kazo as the training center for ESPCs from the three districts. He applauded the DPC for strengthening security in Kazo, noting that “security in Kazo is on another level.” Katugunda further appealed to the police and government to plan for the future employment of the trained personnel after elections.

The Member of Parliament for Kazo County, Hon. Dan Atwijukire Kimosho, described the training as a call to national service, urging the passed-out constables to uphold the law, protect peace and order and remain patriotic during the election period. He emphasized that their conduct would significantly influence the country’s direction for the next five years.

The RDC of Kiruhura district, Mr. Bakunda George, thanked the organizers, instructors and the entire police force, calling on the constables to implement what they have learned and maintain discipline, especially on polling day.

Meanwhile, the RDC for Kazo district, Capt. Yahaya Kakooza, urged the trainees to obey commands, serve the nation patriotically and avoid HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. He also warned against loose talk while on duty, noting that their performance would be closely monitored. Capt. Kazoza commended both trainees and trainers for completing the training without any indiscipline cases.

The pass-out ceremony was attended by police officials from the three districts, Rwizi Region leadership and other local leaders highlighting the importance of coordinated security ahead of the elections.
