Kazo District Celebrates Return of PAS Kyogabirwe Devine After Successful Cancer Treatment in India
Kazo District Local Government today celebrated the return of Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) Madam Kyogabirwe Devine, who has been in India receiving treatment for breast cancer.
Kyogabirwe was diagnosed with cancer in late November last year. She recalled the difficult moment after receiving the news, saying she was deeply disturbed but remained strong in faith and hopeful throughout her treatment journey.
Upon her return, Kyogabirwe expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district leadership, staff, friends, and the entire community for standing with her during the most challenging period of her life. She thanked the district administration for contributing towards her costly medical journey to India.
While addressing the Senior Management Meeting at the district council hall, she paid special tribute to her supervisor, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), for his unwavering support. She also extended appreciation to Ugandans, the district community, and both technical and political leaders for their encouragement and assistance.
Kyogabirwe revealed that specialists in India conducted several tests and eventually confirmed that she is cancer-free. She noted, however, that she will continue to follow medical advice and remain on treatment as prescribed by the doctors.
She further thanked the LC5 Chairperson Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda and area Member of Parliament Hon. Dan Atwijukire Kimosho, whom she emotionally praised for their significant support towards her medical trip.
In his remarks, CAO Hajji Majanja commended his staff for their unity and compassion describing their cooperation in supporting Devine as an example of how communities should live. “I am happy that my staff cooperate in this way. It makes me proud and I urge you to continue,” he said.
District staff filled the council hall with joy as they welcomed their colleague back in good health.
In September, friends of Devine together with district staff and the wider community organized a marathon to raise funds for her treatment and to raise awareness about cancer, its existence and the importance of early prevention.
