Kazo District Council Approves UGX 25.1 Billion Budget for FY 2025/2026

Kazo, May 20, 2025 — Kazo District Council has approved budget estimates totaling UGX 25,153,626,000 for the Financial Year 2025/2026. The budget was passed during a council session held at the district headquarters, chaired by Hon. Dan Bwamunyoga, the District Speaker.

The budget was presented by the Secretary for Finance and production, who is also the District Councilor for Kyampangara Sub-county. It outlines the district’s planned revenues and expenditure for the upcoming financial year.

According to the approved budget, funding will come from the following sources: Locally Raised Revenue: 4.6%, Discretionary Government Transfers: 16.9%, Conditional Government Transfers: 78.2%, other government transfers: 0.3%.

The budget has been distributed across various departments as follows: Education: 42.4%, Health: 18.7%, Administration: 15.6%, Production: 6.5%, Works: 5.2%, Statutory Bodies: 2.4%, Water: 2.2%, Natural Resources: 1.5%, Finance: 1.3%, Planning: 1.3%, Community-Based Services: 0.9%, Trade, Industry, and Local Economic Development (LED): 0.5% and Internal Audit: 0.3%.

District Speaker Hon. Dan Bwamunyoga expressed gratitude for the strong cooperation between the political leadership and the technical team, which he said was instrumental in the smooth approval of the budget.

During the session, a motion was passed to express support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and to endorse the current District Chairperson, Nkeija Wilson, for continued leadership.

The LC5 Chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, highlighted significant progress made in key sectors such as education, health, roads and agriculture. He emphasized the district’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and control livestock diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
Councilors also deliberated on strategies to improve local revenue generation, emphasizing the need for sustainable internal funding mechanisms.

The Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Badru Mayanja, urged council members to support the district’s revenue collection initiatives. He noted that enhanced local revenue will be vital in financing development programs.
