Kazo District Council Passes UGX 27.1 Billion Budget for 2026/2027 Financial Year

Kazo district Council has approved a budget of UGX 27,146,518,000 for the 2026/2027 financial year during a council sitting held today at KAN House Conference hall in Kazo town council.

Presiding over the session, Speaker Hon. Dan Nahurira Bwamunyoga welcomed council members and commended them for their continued cooperation and commitment to serving the people of Kazo district.

Speaker Bwamunyoga also applauded the district’s strong performance in the national assessments conducted by the Office of Prime Minister, where Kazo was ranked sixth nationwide. He credited both political leaders and technical staff for the achievement.

In recognition of this milestone, the Speaker fulfilled a previous pledge by donating a bull for celebration. “When we were celebrating the 14th position, I promised that if we attained a single-digit position, I would give you a bull. Now that we are number six, I deliver my promise,” he said.

The approved budget will be allocated across sectors with Education taking the largest share of 39.4%, followed by Health with 19.7%, Administration taking 14.7%. Roads and Engineering, as well as Production, will each receive 6.0%, while Water will take 4.4% and Statutory Bodies 2.3%. Natural Resources and Planning will each receive 1.7%, Finance 1.6%, Community-Based Services 1.1%, Trade, Industry and Local Economic Development 0.8% and Internal Audit will take 0.5%.

Vice Chairperson Ntungire Fred presented the previous council report, confirming that all resolutions from earlier sittings had been implemented.

District Chairperson Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda highlighted key achievements, noting that Kazo district was ranked sixth nationally in the 2024/2025 assessments.

He also highlighted improvements in the health sector, noting that in the Annual Health Performance Report for the Financial Year 2024/2025, the district improved significantly rising from 77th position to 13th.

Katugunda further revealed that the district has strengthened its workforce by recruiting experienced heads of departments and reinstating the District Service Commission.

On infrastructure, he acknowledged delays in the construction of the district administration block by the UPDF Engineering Brigade but noted that progress had improved after engagements. The Chairperson also emphasized efforts to boost local revenue collection through improved systems such as IRAS.

In his concluding remarks, Katugunda thanked the Speaker and the Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala for their leadership.

The session was adjourned with Speaker Bwamunyoga bidding farewell to councilors who are completing their term of office. He also announced his intention to seek re-election as District speaker.
