Museveni Urges Productive Land Use and Applauds Kazo’s Development Gains

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday turned his campaign stop in Kazo district into a call for smarter land use and intensified household wealth creation, even as he applauded the area’s progress under the National Resistance Movement (NRM). Thousands of supporters packed the Kazo Model Playground to welcome the President, who arrived with First Daughter Patience Rwabwogo.

Shifting attention from politics to economic transformation, President Museveni emphasised that the NRM’s most enduring achievement over the last 40 years has been securing nationwide peace through the rejection of sectarianism. That foundation, he said, made it possible to build national institutions from the army to the police that guarantee stability.

Productive Land Use at the Centre of Museveni’s Message

Museveni strongly reiterated his appeal for Ugandans to fully utilize their land, thanking those who have embraced the NRM’s wealth-creation message. He stressed the superiority of zero-grazing over free-range grazing, calling the latter a major cause of land wastage.

“One square mile can only support 200 cows under free grazing, but with planted pasture it can hold more than 500 cows,” he said, warning residents of Kazo against fragmenting land after the death of parents. He pointed to small but highly productive farms like those of Nyakaana in Fort Portal and Joseph Ijala in Serere as proof that even fewer than 10 acres can yield significant income if well managed.

Museveni credited the surge in Uganda’s milk and coffee production to farmers who adopted commercial agriculture through Operation Wealth Creation.

Infrastructure and Social Services: Kazo’s Progress Highlighted

The President also showcased major upgrades in Kazo’s infrastructure. He revealed that he has already secured coordination with Chinese partners to work on the Kazo–Kabogole–Kyegegwa road a route he said he used during the NRA struggle years.

He further pledged to deliver reliable water to the district through a planned connection from the Katonga River, citing successful similar projects in Kiruhura and the Kagera River supply for Mbarara.

In education, Museveni praised the district’s exponential growth from the pre-NRM era to now having 63 government and 254 private primary schools. Kazo also boasts 6 government and 15 private secondary schools serving over 36,000 students.

Health Facilities Set for Big Upgrades

On health, the President noted Kazo’s expanded network of facilities, including one Health Centre IV, seven Health Centre IIIs and 11 Health Centre IIs. He reaffirmed plans to upgrade Kazo Health Centre IV into a District Hospital and elevate Rwamuranga and Migina Health Centre IIs.

He also highlighted ongoing World Bank–funded works at Kazo HCIV, new medical stores and a mortuary as critical improvements for better service delivery.

Job Creation, Skilling, and Economic Growth

Museveni pointed out that the NRM’s development model has dramatically expanded employment. While government institutions employ 480,000 people, industries and factories now provide jobs to 1.3 million Ugandans across agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.

He commended skilling hubs for equipping school dropouts with practical skills that enabled them to start their own businesses.

Presidential Pledge Fulfilled

In a boost to education, the President directed State House Comptroller Jane Barekye to release his pledged Shs200 million to St. Catherine Girls Secondary School.
