President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday took his campaign trail to Kazo district, where he was warmly welcomed by thousands of residents, leaders and long-time political allies. Among the notable figures at the rally was veteran politician Hon. John Nasasira, who served in several key ministries during his tenure in government.

Nasasira praised President Museveni for what he described as four decades of steady leadership that transformed Uganda “from backwardness to progress.” He reminded the enthusiastic crowd that in 2016, leaders from Kazo requested district status a pledge fulfilled in 2019 and credited the President for continuing to channel development resources into the area.

“We are grateful that after granting us district status, you continued to send development resources. Today we have electricity, water, health facilities, ICT services and better roads,” Nasasira said. He commended Kazo’s leadership and local NRM campaign structures, calling them one of the well-organized teams in the country and predicted a decisive victory for the party.

During the rally, Hon. John Nasasira presented several key community concerns on behalf of Kazo residents. He requested the construction of the Kazo–Kyegegwa road to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the district. Nasasira also called for the extension of water supply to Kazo ensuring that the district has reliable access to clean water.

Nasasira expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his support in the development of Rwanyamuzira Technical School, acknowledging the improvements made so far. However, he noted that there are still areas that require attention and further investment to elevate the school to its full potential.

In addition, Nasasira brought up a critical issue affecting local farmers the prevalence of a cattle disease in Kazo, locally known as ”Akakoko komwitaka”. He urged government scientists to conduct research on this disease, expressing confidence that President Museveni with his wealth of experience in leading national struggles could guide efforts to address the issue and support local farmers in combating it.

In his address, President Museveni reaffirmed that peace and unity remain Uganda’s foundation for development. He credited the NRM government for eliminating sectarian politics and building strong security institutions, which he said have enabled the country’s long period of stability.

He highlighted major infrastructure achievements, pointing to improved road networks linking Lyantonde, Kiruhura, Kazo, Ibanda, Kamwenge and Fort Portal. Museveni assured residents that government would continue expanding services in the district, including supplying water from the Katonga River and upgrading Kazo Health Centre IV to a district hospital. He further confirmed that construction of the Kazo–Kyegegwa–Hapuyo road would soon begin following agreements with Chinese partners.

Turning to household prosperity, the President reminded citizens of the difference between public development and personal wealth. He encouraged residents to embrace commercial agriculture, better land use, and modern animal husbandry. Museveni applauded model farmers in Ankole and urged widespread adoption of high-yield farming practices, including large-scale animal feed production.

“Uganda is fortunate to have abundant coffee and milk. Our farmers are already benefiting and we no longer import milk from Kenya,” he said, attributing agricultural successes to initiatives such as Operation Wealth Creation.

The President also highlighted job opportunities created through industrialization, noting that Mbale Industrial City now employs about 12,000 workers while Namanve Industrial Park hosts more than 44,000.

Museveni concluded by urging NRM supporters to stay focused on wealth creation at the household level, saying it remains the surest path to lasting prosperity.
