From One Calf to Seven Cattle: Katugunda Hands Over AMDA Donation to State House After Nine Years

Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda the Lc5 chairman of Kazo district, has officially handed over seven cattle to a team from State house after successfully keeping and multiplying livestock originally donated to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni by members of Kazo Catholic Parish under their association of Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA)

The cattle were initially represented by one calf donated to President Museveni by the parish in 2017. The calf, which had not yet become pregnant at the time, was entrusted to Rev. Katugunda to look after on behalf of the President.

Over the years, the single calf multiplied into seven cattle under his care.

Rev. Katugunda recently met President Museveni and informed him about the livestock donation made by the Catholic community of Kazo and how the animals had multiplied. Following the engagement, the President sent a delegation to collect the cattle from Katugunda’s home on Monday, November 2, 2026.

Speaking during the handover, Rev. Father Conrad Nkamwesiga, on behalf of Christians of Kazo Catholic Parish, commended Rev. Katugunda for his commitment, honesty and responsible stewardship in looking after the animal entrusted to him.

He appreciated Katugunda for preserving the parish’s contribution to the President, noting that what started as one calf had grown into seven cattle.

Ninsima John, who served as chairman of the parish council in 2017 when the donation was made, also praised Katugunda for faithfully looking after the animal over the years.

He observed that the parish community had almost forgotten about the calf, but was pleased to learn that it had multiplied into seven cattle through Katugunda’s dedication.

The State House delegation was led by Captain Marion Akandinda, who represented the team alongside Dr. Katabarwa and Dr. Lubongoya.

Captain Akandinda thanked Katugunda for his faithfulness and responsible stewardship, commending him for ensuring that the President’s animal was well cared for and multiplied.

She also conveyed President Museveni’s appreciation to the Catholic community of Kazo for its continued support, adding that the President values and loves them.

In a gesture of appreciation, Christians of Kazo Catholic Parish requested the State House delegation to convey their wish for President Museveni to reward Katugunda with a calf for his faithful service as caretaker of the livestock.

Following consultations, Captain Akandinda accepted the request and announced that Katugunda would receive one calf, named Kagabo, as recognition of his commitment and faithful stewardship.

The gesture was welcomed as a token of appreciation for the years Katugunda had dedicated to looking after the animal on behalf of the President.

In his remarks, Rev. Katugunda thanked God for enabling him to remain faithful to the responsibility entrusted to him.

He explained that he took care of the cattle because he considers President Museveni a parent, and therefore felt obliged to fulfil the responsibility with commitment and honesty.

The handover marked the conclusion of a nine-year stewardship journey that saw one calf entrusted to Rev. Katugunda grow into seven cattle, while also highlighting the relationship between Kazo Catholic Parish, its leadership and the President.
