Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda Re-elected Kazo District LC5 Chairperson
Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been declared the winner of the Kazo district local government chairperson (LC5) election, according to official results released by the District Returning Officer.
The results were announced in the early hours of Friday morning at Kazo district headquarters. Rev. Katugunda secured 29,005 votes, representing 66.09 percent of the total valid votes cast.
His closest challenger, Musinguzi Sam Muyambi, who contested as an independent candidate, garnered 14,879 votes, accounting for 33.91 percent of the valid votes.
According to the Electoral Commission, a total of 43,884 valid votes were cast out of 44,500 ballot papers counted. The election recorded 616 rejected (invalid) ballot papers and 78 spoiled ballot papers.
Kazo district has 103,894 registered voters and results were received from all 282 polling stations, representing 100 percent coverage of polling stations in the district.
The District Returning Officer, Bashajja Charles, officially declared Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda the duly elected LC5 Chairperson for Kazo district in accordance with the Local Governments Act.
The election was part of the 2026 Local Government Council Elections, conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.
In his victory message, Rev. Katugunda thanked the people of Kazo district for re-electing him and expressed appreciation to his supporters for what he described as “fighting a good fight” to ensure he retained the seat. He also called for unity among residents, emphasizing that elections are now over and urging all citizens to focus on the development of Kazo district.
Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda has served as an LC5 Chairperson since 2011, when the area was still part of Greater Kiruhura. Following the creation of Kazo district in 2019, and as a resident of the new district, he returned to Kazo and was elected LC5 Chairperson, a position he continues to hold following this latest victory.
