Government Uplifts Kazo’s Elderly with SAGE Payments
Elderly persons in Kazo district under the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) program have this week received their payments, bringing relief and joy to senior citizens across the district.
At least 1,512 elderly persons are registered to benefit from the program in Kazo district. Under SAGE, the Government of Uganda provides a monthly stipend of UGX 25,000 to persons aged 80 years and above disbursed quarterly at UGX 75,000 per beneficiary.
According to the payment records, 95 elderly persons in Kyampangara received ugx 7,950,000, 123 in Buremba received ugx 10,025,000, 129 in Nkungu received ugx 11,250,000, 94 in Burunga got ugx 8,325,000, 64 in Rwemikoma received ugx 7,650,000, 25 in Migina got ugx 2,200,000 among other Sub-Counties in the district.
Speaking at the district headquarters, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kazo district, commended the government and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his commitment to supporting the elderly.
“It is the first time in our country’s history that government has prioritized the elderly in this way. In previous regimes, they were often neglected but under this government, they have been recognized and supported,” Hajji Mayanja said.
He urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve their livelihoods and advised families to plan early for retirement, whether employed or self-employed.
Kazo district Speaker, Dan Bwamunyoga, also appreciated the government for the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward promoting dignity and welfare among senior citizens.
“I encourage the beneficiaries to use this money to meet their essential needs and to maintain peace in their homes. I also urge relatives to care for the elderly and not to disturb them, so they can live happily and peacefully,” Bwamunyoga said.
The SAGE program continues to play a vital role in improving the welfare of Uganda’s elderly population, ensuring that they live with dignity and stability in their final years.
