Kazo District Receives Mosquito Nets from National Medical Stores to Boost Malaria Fight
Kazo district has received a consignment of mosquito nets from the National Medical Stores (NMS) in a move aimed at strengthening the fight against malaria.
The mosquito nets were delivered by NMS representative Mr.Kirya Faluku during a handover ceremony held at the Kazo district headquarters on Thursday.
Speaking during the handover, Faluku said NMS delivered 2,574 bales of mosquito nets, each containing 50 nets, which will be distributed across the parishes in Kazo district.
Faluku added that NMS already has the contacts of the responsible persons who will receive the mosquito nets to ensure smooth distribution to the intended beneficiaries.
District officials welcomed the delivery, describing it as a timely support that will help address the high burden of malaria in the district. They pledged to ensure effective distribution and community sensitization on the importance of sleeping under mosquito nets.
The mosquito nets were officially received by district officials including the District Health Officer, Dr. Edgar Kansiime, who emphasized the importance of mosquito nets in preventing malaria.
Dr. Kansiime said the distribution will help protect vulnerable groups, especially children and pregnant women, from malaria infections. He noted that the district health department will ensure the nets are properly distributed to health facilities and communities that need them most.
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kazo district, Hajji Badru Mayanja Majwala, commended the National Medical Stores for the timely delivery and reaffirmed the district’s commitment to improving public health services.
He urged district health teams and local leaders to work together to ensure the mosquito nets reach the intended beneficiaries and are properly used.
The CAO also warned residents against misusing the mosquito nets, noting that some people use them for activities such as rearing chickens and trapping grasshoppers, which undermines government efforts to fight malaria.
Meanwhile, the Kazo district speaker, Hon. Dan Nahurira Bwamunyoga, urged residents to properly use the free mosquito nets provided by the government, saying the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of citizens.
The LCV Chairperson for Kazo district, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, encouraged residents to follow all guidelines provided by health workers in order to effectively fight malaria and other diseases.
Rev. Katugunda also thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for supporting the district through such health interventions and pledged that the district leadership will continue working hard to reduce malaria cases.
The event was also witnessed by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kazo district, Bazirio Mugisha Paddy, who presided over the flag-off of the mosquito nets from the district headquarters.
He thanked the President for being at the forefront of the fight against diseases in Uganda and emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies and local authorities in delivering essential health supplies.
The Deputy RDC also encouraged residents to make proper use of the mosquito nets as a key measure in preventing malaria.
Malaria remains one of the leading public health challenges in Kazo district, where the positivity rate between September and December 2025 stood at 58 percent.
The distribution of mosquito nets is part of ongoing national efforts to reduce malaria infections and protect communities across Uganda.
