Kazo Councillors Urged to Uphold Integrity and Teamwork
Newly elected councillors in Kazo district have been called upon to uphold integrity, respect the electorate and prioritize teamwork as they begin their leadership journey.
Speaking during an orientation meeting held at his residence, the LC5 Chairperson Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, congratulated the councillors on their election and urged them to work collectively for the development of the district. He stressed that cooperation remains the cornerstone for progress in Kazo.
Rev. Katugunda also highlighted the district’s strong performance in national assessments and reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption. He called on councillors to join him in eliminating corrupt practices, noting that integrity is central to effective leadership.
The Chairperson of the District Service Commission Turyahikayo Norbert, also congratulated the councillors and shared insights on leadership challenges. He identified politics, money and personality differences as major sources of conflict, urging leaders to avoid divisions and focus on service delivery.
Norbert advised councillors to maintain oversight on government projects without interfering in their implementation, emphasizing accountability and transparency. He further encouraged them to work closely with technical staff, particularly the accounting officer to ensure improved performance in national evaluations.
The District Speaker, Hon. Dan Nahurira Bwamunyoga, reminded councillors of their responsibility to the public, urging them to remain disciplined and mindful of their conduct. He noted that leaders serve as representatives and “eyes” of the people and must act accordingly.
Deputy Chairperson Ntungire Fred also commended Rev. Katugunda for his mentorship and called on councillors to stay connected to their communities, describing citizens as their ultimate employers. He further praised the Speaker for effectively guiding council proceedings and urged members to maintain high performance standards.
During an open discussion session, councillors shared their views on their roles and responsibilities, ultimately pledging to work together and embrace cooperation in line with the guidance provided by the district leadership.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment from all councillors to promote teamwork, accountability and service delivery in Kazo district.
