Kazo District Registers Strong Performance in 2025 PLE Results

Kazo District Local Government has once again posted commendable results in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), reflecting steady improvement in academic performance since the district was carved out of Kiruhura in 2019.

According to the results released, a total of 3,424 candidates sat for the examinations across the district. Of these, 762 pupils passed in Division 1, 2,223 in Division II, 253 in Division III, 91 in Division IV, while 45 candidates were ungraded.

The Division I performance included 395 male and 367 female candidates, highlighting balanced achievement across gender. Division II registered the highest number of candidates, with 1,011 males and 1,212 females, further underscoring the district’s strong overall showing.

This performance builds on last year’s success, when Kazo district was ranked among the best-performing districts nationwide in the 2024 PLE. In that year, 639 pupils attained First Grade, 2,413 obtained Second Grade, and 214 secured Third Grade.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kazo district, Hajji Badru Mayanja, has consistently championed improved academic performance. He has also emphasized the revival of school drama clubs as a tool for sensitizing learners on HIV/AIDS and other social issues, noting that co-curricular activities play a key role in shaping disciplined and informed pupils.

The LC5 Chairman, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, applauded parents, teachers and pupils for the strong results. He urged parents to continue supporting their children’s education and issued a firm warning to government-aided schools against sending pupils home over school fees.
“Schools should engage parents directly instead of punishing learners by denying them access to education,” he stressed.

Kazo district has also invested heavily in strengthening its education department. Last year, the district successfully recruited a substantive District Education Officer (DEO), Mr. Mwiine Lamech Mirembe, a seasoned educationist and former Inspector of Schools in Kiruhura District..

The Principal District Inspector of Schools, John Bosco Tumwesigye, attributed the improved performance to several key factors.
“There has been remarkable improvement. This is mainly due to stakeholder investment, strong teacher commitment and enhanced inspection, monitoring and supervision by the education department,” he said.

Education stakeholders in the district remain optimistic that with sustained support, monitoring, and community involvement, Kazo district will continue to rise among Uganda’s top-performing districts in education.
